will delight kids with the science of what makes bugs unique and important to
our ecosystem. Weather permitting, kids will have a chance to see what bugs
they can collect during the class.

Amateur Naturalist Class: Nature
Photography

Learn how to see with the eye
of a professional photographer in a two-part class. Award-winning
professional photographer Joel Zak will teach students how to create
photographic images that “capture, command, and compel.” The class will
illustrate the principles of the “art of seeing” and cover composition,
lighting, and timing, among other elements. The class is intended for all those
interested in advancing their photography.
$5 per person (covers both sessions);

Straub Environmental Lecture Series: Dr. Luke Gascho
God is Green: Intersections
of Faith and Environmental Stewardship

Liberty Street SE, Salem
Faith expressions and caring fro the Earth are often seen as being at odds with
each other. Dr. Gascho will talk about the intersection of theological,
ethical and ecological foundations for environmental stewardship. The
lecture will explore ways of expressing faith commitments through valuing place,
gardening, restoring landscapes, building green and practicing ecojustice.

The Straub Environmental Learning
Center has a community multi-purpose room that can be used
for meetings,
presentations, classes, and other community based
activities. It can
accommodate groups of 50. The facility is wheel chair
accessible. All events must be free, non-advocacy events open
to the public.
